Ram Navami as the name suggests, is a festival conducted to celebrate Lord Shri Rama or Maryada Purushottam, who is also considered to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. During this year, the festival will be celebrated on Wednesday, 21 April 2021.

Chaitra Navratri Day Nine Celebrations During Ram Navami
Navami is celebrated on the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri. On this ninth day of Navratri, there is a tradition of worshipping Goddess Siddhidatri. On this day, many people perform Havan after worshiping Kanjak(small girls). On this day, people invite young girls to their home and feed them and give them gifts and bid adieu to them with great devotion.
However, since the country is undergoing another phase of Coronavirus, Kanya Pujan must not be organised on this day. In such a situation, if you wish, you can perform the Kanya Pujan in the ways mentioned below.
- On this day, after worshiping Lord Ganesha at the very beginning, worship Goddess Siddhidatri.
- Make donations at this time instead of conducting the Kanya Pujan.
- You can give food to a needy person and instead of giving away the money to the Kanjak, donate it to the PM Cares fund.
- Apart from this, you can also feed animals on this day.
- On this day you can feed prasad(which was supposed to be for Kanya Pujan) to animals such as dogs, cows, etc.

How and Why was Lord Rama Born?
Also known as the seventh representation of Lord Vishnu, Maryada Purushottam Ram came into existence in the Treta Yuga. As per the conventions mentioned in religious scriptures, Lord Rama incarnated with a special purpose. This mainly included the benefit and salvation of mankind. He was born to set examples for human beings and negate every form of immoral and unjust activities taking place on this earth and establish law and order once again.
King Dashrath, the father of Lord Rama had three wives, but none of them were able to bear any progeny, the one who could acquire Dashrath’s throne. The king decided to seek guidance from sages and hermits. In such an encounter, a sage advised King Dashrath to organise the ‘Putrayasthi Yagya’. As suggested, he commemorated all the rituals and organised the ‘Putrayasthi Yagya’.
The Prasad distributed after the Yagya was specially handed over by the king to his favourite wife, Kaushalya. Being the just woman she is, Kaushalya decided to share this Prasad with the other two wives as well. She distributed one share to Kaikeyi and the remaining other to Sumitra. Under the influence of the Yagya and the Prasad, kaushalya gave birth to Lord Rama during the Navami Tithi of Shukla paksha in the month of Chaitra. This also took place under Punarvasu Nakshatra and Rama was also born under the Cancer ascendant. Similarly Kaikeyi gave birth to Bharat and Sumitra bore twins named Lakshman and Shatrughan.

The Puja Vidhi of Ram Navami is as follows,
- Wake up early in the morning on this day and offer your reverence to the Lord with a devoted heart and mind.
- Basil leaves (Tulasi Patta) and lotus flowers should definitely be used while commemorating the Puja rituals on this day.
- Afterwards, the Sola Pujan Vidhi(Shodchpchar) should be observed to conduct the Ram Navami Puja.
- Offer Kheer( porridge) and Prasad on this day.
- Once the Puja rituals are complete, everyone should apply a Tilak on their forehead and accept the Prasad.

Mythology Associated with Ram Navami
The mythological legends the story of Ram Navami begins with Lankapati Ravan. It dates back to that time period when Ravan came across to his natives as an atrocious ruler. He treated his subjects with malice and hatred. The entire Kingdom had worn out due to his cruel and evil principles. Not only the common folks, even the deities residing in heaven were also fed up of Ravana’s misuse of power. When the cruelties surpassed each and every limit, then the entire heavenly deities visited Lord Vishnu and asked him to save them.
As a result of this prayer put forward by the deities of heaven, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Dashrath and Kaushalya’s son, Lord Rama. He went on to overpower Ravana and defeated him in a war. Now, it has been mentioned a while ago that the Navami Tithi of Shukla paksha which arrives in the month of Chaitra is celebrated very much as Ram Navami and ever since then this tradition has not stopped. It is also believed that Swami Tulsidas penned down the Ramcharitmanas during this Navami Tithi only.
